In the email, Alex informed us that his wife, Jenn, had recently been diagnosed with Leukemia and was undergoing chemotherapy treatment at UCSF. As part of Jenn's treatment course, doctors required her to shower multiple times a day, and she had grown very sensitive to the overpowering perfumes used in many soaps. The subtle aroma of the Soap Cake was mild enough for her to withstand throughout the day, and brought her a little bit of comfort in her very uncomfortable circumstances. Reading Alex's kind email and Jenn's blog post (which you can read here) reminded me that sometimes it's the little things in life that can make the biggest differences.
I write this post with warm, loving intentions as I remember to appreciate all the big and little things in my life - including soap.
