Goodbye Bedspreads

Yes, you read that correctly. Although it's been a big transition, we are so excited to announce that we have traded in all our bedspreads for crisp white Damask linens with bed scarves and oversized throw pillows.

We think the new look is both updated and refreshed and allows the unique decor in each room to really shine.

As for the old bedspreads, we will be having a sale on Sunday, 3/15, at the Madonna Inn Expo Center beginning at 9am. Vintage collectors and Madonna Inn fans alike are encouraged to stop by and browse our selection!

Here are just a few of my personal favorite spreads.

Contact Cheri Humphrey at 805-431-1093 to purchase a spread, now through the end of the week!

  1. Will it be an auction or set price sale? We're thinking of driving down from the Bay Area and just wondering how hard it will be to score a couple of these beauties??

    1. The bedspreads will have set prices, based on the quality and condition they are in. If you have a specific bedspread in mind, please contact Cheri Humphrey at cheri@madonnainn.com. They will be sold first come first served, unless a prior arrangement is made.

  2. I'm begging you to change your decision! The bedspreads are part of the decor. We can get damask blandness anywhere!

  4. This is a horrible decision. I never want to return. I will go to Days Inn instead.

  5. Seriously who advised the inn this was a good idea. People travel out of the way to stay here for the character and quirkiness. It seriously looks like a Holiday Inn Express. What a shame.

  6. I'd like to add my voice to the chorus... people go to the Madonna Inn *for* the bedspreads on top of the rest of the decor! It's what makes the inn unique and a destination for the artistic, the bold, and the fun. These new sheet sets look terribly generic and don't pair well with the rest of the decor, either. I wish you all the best of luck with your decision but I'm so sad to say that the inn will likely be off my bucket list after this change. Those bedspreads have contributed to some incredible photography I've seen and it's a shame that the inn will no longer be a destination for making that kind of wonderful art.

  7. Replacing bedspreads worn bedspreads is a great idea, but to replace them with something as pedestrian as white duvets that can be found in ANY bland hotel in the U.S..... that is sacrilegious. Please reconsider. Your hotel is loved by so many for the flamboyance, the unexpected and the super-luxurious. eBay is a great resource for interesting fabrics (many of them dead-stock vintage, never used). Or a quick trip to the LA Fashion district...tons of fabric stores down there.

Please don't chip away at the fabulosity your grandfather and grandmother worked so hard to create and maintain. I know you can do better.

Sent with love and respect from a MAJOR fan.

  8. I'm really disappointed to see what you've done to the Inn. I have always loved this place for it's uniqueness and bold color palette. Please reconsider "updating" the other rooms before yet another California icon is ruined.

  9. You are making the WORST decision possible. Why would you ruin the Madonna Inn. You should reconsider. I'm so disappointed.
We went for our Honeymoon when still original. We will NEVER come back if this is the future. You will loose so many customers.
    Completed disgusted.

  10. Oops Typo. Completely disgusted.

  11. You should be commissioning quilting artists to make replicas, not replacing them with generic atrocities. Alex is rolling over in his grave...

  12. This was not a wise business decision.

  13. 100% AGREE! What the hell were you thinking?? Why would you destroy your own brand like that? If they need to be replaced due to age you should be having reproductions made to keep consistent with the style. God knows you all have the money to do that, your hotel is 100% booked for next weekend. You should probably go ahead and tear down that old dated wallpaper, repaint a nice bright white, and might as well pick up some updated light fixtures from IKEA while your at it....

  14. Wow, a whole lot of people losing their minds over blankets here. When you consider that half the negative reviews for the inn mention the "gross" bedspreads (which ARE difficult to clean, being vintage) this was just a smart business decision. There's still so much charm and quirk left in the place that it's hardly worth a boycott over the loss of the bedspreads, especially if you view it as an upkeep and sanitation issue. Change is inevitable!

    1. It's not just the bedspreads! They are tearing out the gleeful wallpaper and painting the walls with muted colors! They've already ruined everything that was unique about several rooms! It is not an over reaction. People love The Madonna Inn because there is no other place like it. We're pleading with the new owner to honor the integrity of this icon!

  15. I am so heartbroken. I had been waiting to visit the Madonna for over 5 years, and was able to finally book my very first stay about 2 weeks ago (for my birthday next week). I had a whole series of self portraits I was going to shoot to commerate the occasion. I asked for the love nest or Carin rooms, and I even bought a 1940's red satin dressing gown to go with the bedspreads. Of course this had to happen the week I go. I (as well is MANY other fans of the Madonna) believe this COMPLETELY takes away from the aesthetic of the rooms.

    1. Note: when I booked the room it had the original bedsheets. I paid upwards of $400 for this room as it was shown, not for a bed I could get at a holiday inn express. Also, the Inn is deleting comments made by those who are not pleased with the change (mine left yesterday was deleted I came to find out to see if the Madonna had replied- I certainly hope this is not a reflection on the service I will receive during my stay)

  16. i was just looking at rooms and noticed how they all look different and have lots their charm and quickly googled "madonna inn got rid of bed spreads"...I can't believe they did that. It really changes things and the rooms don't seems nearly as unique and quirky as they once were. Its so expensive to stay here, and I would pay the money for the themes to be fully carried out to excess in each room, but its no longer worth the cost to me.
